RUESI DA TON

 Yoga of the Hermit

RUE-SI = Ascetic or Hermit or One who concentrates
DA TON = self-stretching

RUESI + DATON can be translated as “Self-stretching exercises for the ascetic or the hermit”.

Ruesi Datton is the originator of Nuad Boran Thai massage.

Its movements are close to the movements found in traditional Thai massage but are carried out by the practitioner himself unlike traditional Thai massage in which the recipient is passive, all movements being initiated by the giver (massager).

The Ruesi Datton movements have been used by Thai yogis for millennia to keep their physical bodies healthy during long periods of meditation.

The inscriptions seen on the walls of the Cat Po monastery in Bangkok show that the Rue-Si Datton dates back to the reign of King Rama I, when he gave the royal order to restore the collections of old medical textbooks.

This is how we can see on the walls engravings of the body's energy lines, the Sen, which are taken into account in the postures of this Hermit yoga.

#THE PRACTICE

Ruesi Datton yoga is made up of 80 postures that can be found in the form of statues within the Wat Pot temple in Bangkok.

These postures each present from 1 to 6 figures depending on each one.

In each of these figures we will find self-stretching, self-massage, acupressure points, dynamic exercises.

Added to this are moments of breath retention associated with energetic holds on certain points of the body.

The practice takes place in a meditative spirit.

#RHYTHM

The exercises follow one another in series with breath retention similar to that which we use in Tibetan yoga Lu Jong or in the practice of Tsa Lung.

#FOR WHO-?

With its wide range of postures (around 200 in total), the practice is open to everyone, because we can always adapt. For each posture, we move from an easy figure to an advanced figure. Everyone goes where they can. Thus the practice will be offered to both people with reduced mobility and the elderly. In addition, there is always an intermediary between the starting point and the finality of the movement, thus allowing everyone to practice, even if initially the flexibility is not there.
